Joya de Ceren
Joya de Cerén is one of the most important archaeological site of Mesoamerica, and belongs of the fabulous Maya world. In 1993 it was declared Word Heritage by UNESCO and is known as the Maya Pompeii because it shows what life was like for ordinary people. 1400 years ago this Maya village was covered by the ashes of the eruption Caldera volcano. Nowadays the visitors can appreciate some houses made up of 3 separate structures: the bedrooms, the kitchen (where knives, grinding stones, pots with food remains (beans, cocoa and chili peppers), clay plates, spears, among others have been unearthed). The archaeological site has a chaman (priest) house, a (Temezcal) or Maya sauna and a museum. We are sure that you will love this unique site in Mesoamerica.
